![]() Puzzles are more prevalent than firefights. Make too many time-consuming slipups, and you have to restart mid-stage if you want to hit the target. While this adds a reason to replay the short 16-stage run to perfection, it also negatively impacts the flow of the game at times. Beating a level while going over the par time unlocks the next one, but it doesn't feel as satisfying a victory if you don't beat the par score. Charging through a level, collecting all of the escaped prisoners, and hightailing it back to the rendezvous point is rarely a smooth process on the first few attempts, and the more complex stages get overwhelming when you're worried about shaving seconds off of your run. Being timed in and of itself isn't so much the problem it's that the game compares your level time to a target par completion time that's often very hard to match. The fact that you're timed gives Mighty Switch Force a speed-run element that feels counterintuitive to its more thoughtful puzzle nature. The trial-and-error nature of some stages grows frustrating toward the final stretches of the game, particularly because there's an ever-ticking timer that pours on the pressure. Pulling off crazy stunts like cannonballing across the screen while rapidly triggering blocks in your path to phase in and out with perfect precision to let you pass takes some serious practice. Patty Wagon will not hesitate to launch herself over a pit of spikes in the name of justice.īlock variety and creative level designs force you to figure out advanced techniques like smashing foes into the foreground with well-timed switches (creating a cool 3D screen-cracking visual effect in the process) and launching yourself through the air with catapult blocks. At first, it's just a simple way to cross gaps and climb to higher ledges, but later stages grow in complexity and challenge as the game adds new block types and introduces more elaborate puzzles to tackle. Every tap of either the left or right shoulder button makes the heroine's hat blip and switches any moveable blocks in the background to the foreground and vice versa. Thankfully, Patty's fancy noggin topper adds a lot more to her resume than keen fashion sense. Patty is armed with a basic blaster and can jump around a bit, but gunning down baddies is secondary to overcoming obstacles and tracking down the escapees. Despite a complete lack of a proper story setup or tutorial to explain its puzzle mechanics, Mighty Switch Force's gameplay is accessible enough for you to hop right in and pick things up on the fly. It's a refreshing and pleasantly upbeat combination. What looks like a side-scrolling action shooter on the surface soon melts away to yield thought-provoking, platforming puzzle work that tests your reflexes. Uncovering their hiding spots and figuring out how to best manipulate the stage itself in order to reach them gives the game loads of unexpected depth. Each of Mighty Switch Force's 16 short stages has you guiding Patty through a slew of monsters, traps, and puzzles to wrangle up a quintet of criminal escapees called the "hooligan sisters" who've scattered themselves in all directions. When her ride gets ambushed and overturned, the futuristic constable finds all of her prisoners running for the hills. Officer Patricia ("Patty") Wagon just isn't having a good day. Smashing baddies into the 3DS screen: priceless. The ability to swap blocks between the foreground and the background turns basic platforming action into brain-bending puzzle chaos, and that’s a good thing-while it lasts. As one of the few non-retro downloadable games designed to make specific use of the handheld's 3D capabilities, Mighty Switch Force makes a lasting impression with its creative switch mechanic. Considering the Nintendo eShop was restructured around the 3DS, it's disappointing to see that it still has a pitiful selection of new 3D games available.

Finally I realised that when you first buy a Cue SPLitter, it creates a context menu of options in the form of a "Cue-sheet" file. So, when I tried to use the new software it said that there were no cue-sheets or play-lists in the system - but when I refreshed the preferences it said that it had read / saved / made a new "Cue-sheet". When I first bought it, I set it up like the pro version and nothing seemed to go wrong, until I went to start it up and it had no cue-sheet and no play-list. Last time I bought one, it cost me over 50 Euros. The most common Cue-Splitter used today is the Gritsch-soft which cuts large MP3 music files into C cue-listen files and adds the relevant ID3-tags in the cue-file, making it easy to find.
![]() With other web browsers, you can save the notes to the clipboard, but with Chrome I also get multiple download options (text, XML, JSON). I liked Bookcision because it worked well with Chrome. After you install it, you use it by opening an ebook’s highlights page on and then clicking the bookmarklet button. This nifty little bookmarklet is simple and works great with Chrome. This screenshot should help you find the export feature. This is not an ideal option, but it does exist, which is better than nothing. I forgot to include this in the original post, but the Kindle app for Windows and macOS has a notebook feature just like the one in the Kindle apps for Android and iOS. I just heard that it actually does have an export option., but you have to get Amazon CS to enable the feature first. Kindle Cloud ReaderĪmazon’s Kindle app for the web browser is located at, and it even has a copy of your notes at /notebook. That is the notebook menu, and the export option is in the upper right corner. One of the icons you will see across the top of the screen will look like a piece of paper. On the Kindle Fire, open the ebook and press the center of the screen. You can either create flashcards or export the notes to Drive, by email, or by Android Beam. On Android, click the "3 dots" icon in the upper right corner, and then select the Notebook option from the dropdown menu. On iOS, click the “sheet of paper” icon in the upper right corner. The export button is in the upper right corner of the notebook menu. The exported notes don’t look very good, but this trick does let you pull the notes out of even a side-loaded ebook. The notebook menu can be accessed from inside a book, but the way you find it differs between Android, iOS, and the Kindle Fire. This menu is accessible from inside the ebook, and one of the things you’ll find there is an option to share your annotations by email. They have a notebook menu where you can find all of the highlights and notes for an ebook. ![]() The Kindle apps for iOS and Android have a feature which is shared by the Kindle Fire tablets. So I have updated the post with corrected info and I’ve also pruned the tools that have died in the past four years.Įdit: And now it’s June 2020, and I still need to export my notes, so I have revised this post. Now it’s March 2019, and about half the tools mentioned in the original post are gone. The tools range from the simple (copy+paste from a web browser) to the inaccessible (an iPhone app and a Mac-only script). Amazon doesn’t make it easy for us to do that, but luckily there are other ways.īack in 2015 I needed to export my Kindle notes, so I did some digging and rounded up a few tools which would help me do just that. Sometimes I need to take the notes I make in a Kindle ebook and use them elsewhere. How to Download Your Kindle Notes and Highlights and Export Them (Updated for 2020)Īmazon has a great reading platform in the Kindle, but sometimes it’s not enough. The high 4k resolution helps deliver crisp images and has decent out-of-the-box accuracy if you want to use it for some casual photo editing. It doesn't have any issues working with recent M1 MacBook Pros, except the default scaling is 1080p, so you just need to change it to 4k to take full advantage of the display. It has one USB-C port that supports 65 W of power delivery, which is enough to keep your laptop going while using it, and it has two USB-A ports if you want to charge other devices. You still get a bunch of features you normally won't find on a budget monitor, so going for a mid-range option is better if you want those features. Should you want something more simple and don't want to spend a ton of money, the Dell S2722QC is the best mid-range monitor for the MacBook Pro that we've tested. Ultimately, if you want to complete your Apple ecosystem, you'll be happy with the Studio Display. If that's the case, something like the Dell U2723QE is cheaper, but it has a lower 4k resolution, and you lose some of the extra features the Studio Display has, like the built-in webcam and microphone. This monitor is on the expensive side and isn't very versatile if you want to connect to other devices. It also has three other USB-C ports to charge other devices, but you can't display images from those inputs. It has one Thunderbolt 3 input that supports 96W of power delivery, meaning you can keep your MacBook fully charged. It has an impressive selection of additional features, including a built-in webcam, microphone, and speakers. It has exceptional accuracy out of the box thanks to its outstanding sRGB mode that you can only access with a macOS device, making it a fantastic choice for content creators. Its 5k resolution delivers incredibly sharp text, and the 27-inch screen makes it easier to see more of your work at once. Considering it's an Apple monitor, it can take full advantage of your MacBook's features, but you also need a MacBook to take full advantage of the monitor. The Apple Studio Display is the best monitor for MacBook Pro that we've tested. Also, check out our recommendations for the best monitors, the best monitors for photo and video editing, and the best monitors for Mac Mini. ![]() We've bought and tested more than 240 monitors, and below are our recommendations for the best monitors for MacBook Pro to purchase. While Dell monitors didn't work with MacBooks in the past, newer ones work with the laptop. We recently started testing monitors' compatibility with the 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip, so our recommendations reflect those results. In the past, MacBook Pros worked best with monitors with a pixel density of around 110 or 220 PPI, but we've confirmed that they can still work with higher pixel densities, so our recommendations focus on USB-C support, as well as other factors like ergonomics, brightness, and viewing angles. If you want to get a monitor for more screen space, you'll want one that supports USB-C with power delivery, which allows you to connect your MacBook Pro to the display and charge it using a single cable. Sometimes you may find that using a laptop screen like on the MacBook Pro is too small. ![]()
![]() ![]() Every expansion set was also traditionally an expert-level set. Expert-Level SetsĮxpert-level was the height of the rating system and were the most complex mechanics and thematic cards available. Advanced-Level SetsĪdvanced-level is the “baseline” for the game, exclusively belonging to core sets. These products were quietly discontinued, but you can find similar products with starter decks from your local game store or boxed sets like the 2021 Arena starter kit. Starting with products like the Portal trilogy and Starter 99/00, these were marketed to bring new players into the game. Starter-level was the lowest level of complexity and offered a great starting point for new players. These were introduced to better inform new players how complex a set or product would be. What Were Starter, Advanced, and Expert-Level Sets?īecause Magic has such a wide variety of complexity, Wizards implemented a rating system for products with the release of Fifth Edition in 1997. Wizards hasn’t yet released any details about the next core set for summer 2022, so it may happen again where we just get another less complex set in exchange for a core set. 2021 sets took a bit of a deviation from this as Forgotten Realms was originally designed as a core set but evolved into its current incarnation as development continued. Despite a brief pause from 2015 to 2018 WotC released one every year. The card themselves didn’t feature keywords or mechanics that were exclusive to expansion sets, instead featuring “evergreen” mechanics that were more common and less complex.Ĭore sets have been a part of Magic since its inception. These sets were mostly reprints of cards from other sets and featured reminder text on cards to help new players. ![]() Core sets made up a large portion of the common cards that players used regardless of format and age. Of course, I didn’t march in and join the gym on the spot. But, for the same reason, something told me that it might be a form of healing. To one part of my brain, the idea of strength training felt challenging: to take up a form of exercise that was not explicitly or implicitly promising to make me thinner felt almost transgressive. But, on this day, I didn’t laugh, because pure muscles suddenly felt like something I might want.Ī post shared by Pure Muscles Gym lucky that I’ve never truly struggled with my body image, but I can’t pretend I’ve been immune to living in a society dominated by diet culture, where the aim is only, and always, to get smaller. I’d noticed it before, because the name – Pure Muscles – always made me laugh. Then, one day, I was on a government- mandated walk near my house and glanced across the road, where I saw the gym. I liked it, but after a while I noticed what I really liked was the small but perceptible changes in my body composition: my thighs felt a bit firmer, my biceps a bit more evident. It got me out of the house and, since you spend quite a lot of each class lying down, didn’t really feel like exercise. Working from home meant that, without a two-hour commute, I had more time on my hands and, when we weren’t in full lockdown at least, I started going to the local Reformer Pilates studio a few times a week. Like most things at the moment, you can blame my transformation on the pandemic. So *record scratch*, how did I end up with not only a four-times-a-week workout habit, but a personal trainer, a slight obsession with Nike Metcons, and an Instagram algorithm serving me ads for protein powder and creatine? It wasn’t a perfect solution – I was still picked last for everything – but at least I escaped the extra humiliation of trying and failing. I decided my best option was to not try at any of them. Failure at an individual sport was at least only embarrassing failure at team games attracted the derision and the ire of my more talented teammates, who’d somehow ended up on the losing side by grudgingly allowing me to guard the goal. It was ‘Games’ it was about winning, and I was frozen-in-the-headlights, terrified of failing. I’m old enough that, when I was at school, PE wasn’t about building health or exploring the joy of movement. What came first? My lack of ability, or my lack of confidence? I still can’t answer that. I did six weeks of couch to 5k once, completed it, and, victorious, returned to the couch, which is where I stayed. I don’t climb, can barely swim and always wear the wrong shoes on hikes. ![]() I’ve never been a member of any kind of sports team, not even one whose main focus is the post-match drinks. I did Ashtanga yoga for a couple of years – not coincidentally the period when Gwyneth Paltrow made it seem the path both to enlightenment and Hollywood hotness – until I quit, bendy but bored. I let my last gym membership lapse sometime in the Noughties. ![]() The extent to which I am not (or – spoiler alert! – was not) an exercise person can hardly be overstated. |
